The distinguishing physical feature of the Scottish Fold breed of cat are the ears. The forward flopping of the ears is caused by a gene mutation that affects the cartilage. Kittens are born with straight ears and only some develop the fold at three to four weeks of age. This breed is also known for their loving and affectionate nature.
